Filling up the water bottles early in the morning before the race.
General nervous fiddling around in transition.
Beginning the process of applying sunscreen. Note the uber-cool body marking.
Applying bodyglide to the back of the neck so that my wetsuit doesn't rub.
Game face is on. It's go time.
Hmm, maybe I better apply sunscreen here too.
Doing my duck imitation. Actually, I have no idea why I'm holding my arms like that.
Swim warmup finished, getting out of the water for the pro start.
Red caps are the Pro-Men. Chris Legh is in there somewhere.
And they're off! Note the largish waves rolling in off the lake.
White caps are the Pro Women. They are going off 1 minute behind the Pro Men.
Go!
Lost in my thoughts getting ready for my wave to be sent off.
Green caps are the Men 0-29. Can you find me there?
And off we go!
Another shot of us hitting the water. Swim out the orange triangle buoy, then hang a right for the next mile.
Coming out of the swim, and stripping off the wetsuit.
Running up the beach towards the transition area ( I'm the 2nd one in, with the white top ).
Coming in off the 56 mile bike course. Big smile as I'm ready to be done with the bike part.
Starting the run. It's hot, so I'm pouring a cup of icewater over my head. (I'm the one in the white cap in the middle).
Temp is around 100F, and HeatIndex is over 115. I just finished stuffing ice cubes in my hat.
Finishing the first loop. Still doing ok at this point, but really getting hot.
Keeping good form. Moving so fast that the camera couldn't focus! ( okay, just kidding about the moving fast part ).
Turning around and starting second lap. Only 6.5 more miles to go!
Coming down the finish chute!
Managing to cross the finish-line without showing how much I was hurting. 70.3 miles
of swimming, biking and running DONE! And it only took 6 hours, 15 minutes.
